Healing with Crystals

TessaMannonen

For thousands of years, crystals and gemstones have been recognized for their elemental stability and have been used for healing and protection in the natural world. Many skeptics assert that there isn't any reliable scientific evidence backing the practice, referring to the phenomenon as a pseudoscience. However, those who endorse it swear by their mystical properties. Whether, though, their powers are in the eyes of the beholder, or if their energetic abilities are true, even medical practitioners have noticed a relaxing effect which they admit can be useful, placebo or not. At the very least, they're gorgeous little trinkets to have.

Below are some quick tips on choosing healing crystals.

You can choose a stone according to your zodiac...
  • Aquarius (January 20 to February 18): Emerald and Garnet
  • Pisces (February 19 to March 20): Amethyst and Bloodstone
  • Aries (March 21 to April 19): Aquamarine and Jade
  • Taurus (April 20 to May 20): Diamond and Opal
  • Gemini (May 21 to June 20): Emerald and Sapphire
  • Cancer (June 21 to July 22): Peal and Moonstone
  • Leo (July 23 to August 22): Ruby
  • Virgo (August 23 to September 22): Peridot and Diamond
  • Libra (September 23 to October 22): Sapphire and Moonstone
  • Scorpio (October 23 to November 21): Opal and Jasper
  • Sagittarius (November 22 to December 21): Topaz and Pearl
  • Capricorn (December 22 to January 19): Turquoise and Onyx

...although sometimes stones can "call out" to you.
Some crystal enthusiasts recommend choosing a stone intuitively. This can be done in the store by looking inward and "feeling" which stone calls out to you. They suggest taking different stones in the palm of your hand, taking notice of how each makes you feel and what sensation they bring to you. It's possible to end up feeling a connection with more than one, so be open to choosing several.

Stones are linked to the chakras too.
This is something I mentioned in my post about chakras. The different chakras are linked to different parts of the body and different mental and emotional states, so full-body healing can be done by using a range of different crystals. You'll notice that the color of the stones coincide with the associated chakra colors, so you can use this to help distinguish the stones that you'll need to keep handy depending on the chakra you want to focus on.

A quick note on how to use them.

A major part of using healing crystals are intentions, that is, knowing what your aims are. You should first figure out your goals not just for using the crystals, but for yourself in general. What do you want in life? What are your values, what matters to you? Once you have set your intentions, the crystal(s) need to be cleansed. Different methods can be used, from soaking in warm water, placing in salt, placing under the moonlight or burying in the ground. You can read more here. After that, you can use the crystals to meditate, carry them along on your person, or keep them close, like on your desk.

I would love to know your experiences with healing crystals. Have they ever worked for you? I know there is a lot of skepticism surrounding this topic but it's good to be aware of other people's experiences all the same, and give it a try on your own. You never know what unexpected and unorthodox methods might agree with your inner self.

Stay peaceful,

  1. Interesting read. I had gotten a very special person an amethyst necklace once and she's a Pisces. I wonder if it ever helped her in any way.

    1. Hi Varon, I'm sure she loved it! And Amethyst is compatible with Pisces so seems like you made a great choice. Thanks for reading!
